Louis the Plant Geek is Louis Raymond, a professional landscape designer (and raconteur) who knew at age 3 that he was a gardener.
Sidetracked by an early-adult career as a coloratura bass (because he could sing!), Louis has been designing and installing gardens full of uncommon & astonishing horticulture, creating flower shows, and lecturing (on the history, sociology, aesthetics, and, of course, horticulture of gardens) across the country for more than twenty years.
His work has been featured in many major publications, and he’s enjoyed appearing on a variety of national and local television shows.
Louis continues to work happily on his own garden in Southern Rhode Island, which is at the heart of this web project.
Richard Ericson, Louis’s partner, shoots, edits and produces the featured one-minute videos. He is also a theatrical producer.
Richard and Louis split their time between New York City and Rhode Island.
And none of this would come together without our great editor Joyce Fingerut, who trained in Horticulture at the Arboretum of the Barnes Foundation (Merion, PA); in Landscape Design at Delaware Valley College (Doylestown, PA); and with courses at Longwood Gardens, Morris Arboretum, and national and international conferences.
Joyce is a Past President of the North American Rock Garden Society, and an author in her own right.
She is also the best dessert baker around.
All the original music underneath the “Trips to Take” videos is courtesy of The Firecracker Jazz Band.
They are awesome, and give us our rush of zing. www.FirecrackerJazz.com.
